چکیده
We discuss antagonism and cooperation in multi-agent systems. We show theoretically and experimentally that cooperation can emerge in a multi-agent system despite the presence of antagonism. moreover antagonist situation can be capitalized on.

Norm Emergence in Tag-Based Cooperation
In multi-agent systems norms are an important influence that can engender cooperation by constraining actions and binding groups together. A key question is how to establish a suitable set of norms in a decentralised population of self-interested agents, especially where individual agents might not adhere to the rules of the system. In this paper we investigate the problem of norm emergence, an...
متن کاملEmergence of Cooperation in a Bio-inspired Multi-agent System
Cooperative behavior of social insects is widely studied and mimicked in Artificial Intelligence communities. One such interesting cooperation is observed in the form of philanthropic activity e.g. army ants build bridges using their own bodies along the route from a food source to the nest. Such altruistic behavior helps to optimize the food gathering performance of the ant colony. This paper ...
متن کاملAutonomy-based multi-agent systems: statistical issues
This paper describes an autonomy-based multi-agent system and its application to simulations in the framework of collective robotics. Experimental results measured for a particular task, namely object regrouping, have two outcomes. First, they show that a form of implicit cooperation takes place in the system despite the absence of explicit cooperation protocol, but just in virtue of the design...
متن کاملThe emergence of cooperation in a multi-agent system
This paper fits in the framework of Distributed Artificial Intelligence and more specifically in the field of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS).We show why antagonism should be considered inMASmade up of autonomous agents and how these systems can even turn antagonism to advantage. We set up in SWARM a MAS aimed at exploring the possibilities of antagonism, oriented towards mobile robotics applications...
متن کاملCo-evolution in Artificial Ecosystems: Competition and Cooperation Using Allellopathy
This paper presents simulations of long-term co-evolution in simple artificial ecosystems composed of different plant species. Artificial plants and plant communities, evolving in a 3D environment, are based on a multi-agent model. This multi-agent approach allows to define communication processes existing at plant and organ levels. A model of a particular chemical interaction between plants is...
